DeFlock alternative apps, compared by what each one does
If you want something besides DeFlock, the main options are FlockHopper for free navigation, Peripheri for on-device alerts on iPhone, Flock Alert for a free iPhone warning app, Flock Camera Locations for a web map, and FlockDetour for camera-aware routes. They share volunteer data, so pick by job.
Six DeFlock alternatives side by side
DeFlock is an open-source project that crowdsources plate reader locations on OpenStreetMap. Most alternatives build on the same data. OpenRoad Labs says it built the current DeFlock Maps site and also makes FlockHopper, so FlockHopper is a sibling of DeFlock's map, not a rival data source.

Where an alternative helps
DeFlock does what it set out to do: a free, open map and a way for volunteers to add cameras. Its app page says edits need an OpenStreetMap account. If you want a phone app that talks you through a route, or a pocket alert as you pass a camera, one of the others fits better.
Peripheri's pitch is privacy: it says location matching runs on the phone with no account. That is its claim, which we did not audit. FlockDetour's gap-filler is the route comparison with a camera count on each option and dated city pages that show the source of each record. No map lists every camera, and none of these tools can promise a route that avoids all of them. Mobile and unmapped readers never show up on any of them.
