FlockDetour: press and research
FlockDetour is an independent camera-awareness map and route-planning app from Block Browser INC. It connects documented camera locations with source information, local research and mobile navigation.
Product facts
- Available on: the web, iPhone and Android. Camera maps are free and require no account.
- Paid features: FlockDetour Pro in the mobile apps adds turn-by-turn navigation and the Balanced and Fewer cameras route modes. Current prices and platform-specific features are in the stores.
- Geographic scope: United States and Canada, with uneven mapping. The city directory currently has 394 US and 79 Canadian entries.
- Camera data: OpenStreetMap contributors and other published datasets. ALPR records, Flock-attributed devices and other camera classes are distinct categories.
- Privacy limits: the map has no plate-search or surveillance-footage access. Route requests send the endpoints needed for calculation; see the privacy policy for service-provider details.

Original local research
These dated reports combine our calculated camera-record snapshots with official local sources. They state where the data stops. They are published by FlockDetour, not independent reviews of our product.
- Flock cameras in Washington, DC: the map, policy and jurisdictionCompare DC's dated camera-map snapshot with MPD's April 2026 LPR policy, a Flock-specific agency statement and DDOT's separate traffic-camera program.
- Flock cameras in Miami: which agency, which date and which road?Read Miami's dated ALPR map with official county and Miami Beach records, plus the exact scope of Florida's August 2026 state-road permit memo.
- Flock cameras in New York: what the map and NYPD records showRead New York's dated ALPR map snapshot alongside NYPD policy, with clear distinctions between Flock labels, mobile readers and database access.
- Flock cameras in Chicago: separate the map, the agency and the dateCompare Chicago's dated camera map with CPD policy, Cook County procurement and Oak Park's termination notice without confusing separate agencies.
- Tampa's map has 234 ALPR records. That is not a police inventory. Our October 3 Tampa snapshot has 234 ALPR records, 197 attributed to Flock. See the radius, sample records and why this is not a police inventory.
- Atlanta's camera map and its police audit measure different things.Atlanta's October 3 snapshot includes 1,318 ALPR records and 1,201 Flock labels. Separate map coverage from APD's September policy-review statement.
- Why six Toronto map records cannot describe a mobile-reader fleet.Toronto's fixed-location ALPR snapshot has six records. Toronto Police describes Axon readers in patrol vehicles. Learn why those numbers cannot be equated.
- Three route observations: one lower mapped count, two unchanged.Three public-point route observations in Tampa, Atlanta and Washington. Exact endpoints, time estimates, camera estimates and results that did not improve.
Download the city coverage summary
The CSV contains aggregate counts for 473 city reference circles: ALPR records, Flock-attributed records, other or unknown vendors, radius, center and retrieval date. 56 entries have fewer than three documented ALPR records. A sparse or zero result describes our coverage, not the absence of cameras.

The selection covers all US Census places with at least 100,000 residents in 2025, state capitals and Washington, DC, plus large 2020 Census-designated communities and qualifying townships and towns. Canada includes every municipality with at least 100,000 residents in the 2025 estimates, named centers of all 41 census metropolitan areas in the 2021 geography, and every provincial and territorial capital. Each city page links its population and geography source; source years are stated separately.
Each circle has a 10-mile (16.1-km) radius. Circles can overlap and cross municipal boundaries, so do not add their totals into a national camera count. A retrieval date is not a field verification date, and a vendor label is not proof of ownership or operation. Source-query caps, when present, make counts lower bounds.
The download contains FlockDetour's calculated aggregate statistics, not the underlying camera database or individual observations. Attribute the calculation to FlockDetour, cite the dated page and preserve its limitations. Underlying sources keep their respective licenses and attribution requirements; consult the source inventory before reusing source records.
Coverage update: October 3, 2026
The city directory expanded from 15 published snapshots to 473 places selected from official population and geography data. Each page has a defined search circle, retrieval date, vendor breakdown, source links and nearby city references. Sparse results and retrieval limits remain visible.
This is an expansion of our published research coverage. It does not mean that new cameras were installed today. We have not calculated installation or removal trends from these snapshots. Future comparisons must keep the boundary, source rules and camera classifications consistent before describing a change.
How we prepare and correct research
We link policy and deployment claims to dated source documents, prioritizing agency policies, government records and provider documentation. A purchase approval, a map record and an operating camera are different forms of evidence. Product descriptions are attributed to their publisher; a store listing is not a physical-device test.
Research and drafting can use automated tools. Each report identifies the sources and limits behind its claims so readers can inspect them. We separate publication and source-review dates from map retrieval dates and field-verification dates. Missing verification remains visible rather than being replaced by a recent import date.
FlockDetour sells optional Pro features, so its product comparisons have a commercial interest. We include competitor strengths and mark features we have not independently tested. Send a correction with the page URL, disputed claim and supporting record to FlockDetour@gmail.com; submit camera-location corrections through the contribution guide.
